A major part of the "full story" is the Front Panel USB/Audio/Card Reader assembly. On many Acer Aspire cases, the front panel buttons were not separate wires. They were integrated into a PCB that also housed the USB ports and card reader.

The front panel header is typically a 14-pin block found at the bottom-right corner of the motherboard. The pins are usually arranged in two rows: the (odd numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, etc.) and the top row (even numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.). The pins are arranged in two rows. Row 1 (Odd) is typically closer to the center of the board, and Row 2 (Even) is closer to the edge.
