There is a scene absent from every trailer: Hayati standing in front of a cermin rias (vanity mirror), looking at her European-style dress, then at her kebaya . She doesn’t say a word for three minutes. We watch the weight of Aziz’s wealth and Zainuddin’s poverty crush her shoulders. The genius of the script is that it doesn’t villainize her choice to marry Aziz. It agonizes over it.
