Born on 27 March 1967 in Zalka, Lebanon, Machaalani was raised in Jounieh. She is married to the Lebanese composer Melhem Abou Chedid; the couple married in 2010 and has a son named Elie. In addition to her Lebanese roots, she also holds Canadian nationality.
